Cleaning the Particle Sensor

The HAVEN Central Air Monitor is a solid-state device and as such requires very little maintenance. However, periodic inspection and cleaning of the air passageways in the sensor probe will help to keep the detection sensors and surfaces free of particles which, if left to build up, could cause inaccurate reporting of the airborne particulates in the home's air.

To clean the HAVEN Central Air Monitor you will require a cotton swab or q-tip and isopropyl or rubbing alcohol.

To clean the Central Air Monitor:

  1. First, turn the input power to the transformer or Central Air Handling Unit OFF.

  2. Carefully pull the sensor probe out of ductwork, but leave the mounting plate in place (it will remain screwed into the ductwork).

  3. Once the sensor probe is free of the ductwork, carefully inspect the two passageways in the probe for any visible particulate buildup on the internal surfaces.

  4. If no particulate debris is visible on the sensor probe’s surfaces:

    • Carefully reinsert the sensor probe into the hole in the mounting plate just until you hear a slight "click". Do not push the sensor probe further than this "click" position.
    • Reattach the supply of 24V power to the sensor probe.
    • When the sensor probe's LED light flashes green and blue, then the device is back online and operating.
    • Note: if the LED flashes green and purple then the Monitor has not been seated in the mounting plate correctly. Slide the probe into the faceplate until it "clicks"

       5. If particulate debris is visible on the sensor probe’s surfaces:

    • Take a cotton swab that has been wet slightly with isopropyl or rubbing alcohol and very gently wipe over the internal surfaces of the sensor probe to remove the debris.
Now is a good time to verify your data via the HAVEN Pro Portal. You'll likely see a little interruption of the data or the airflow during your quick device maintenance and you may even notice a short PM spike as a result of disturbing the ductwork.
